Information message

We are pleased to invite you to participate in a short survey focusing on achieving inclusive engagement in NbS co-creation, being conducted as part of NetworkNature’s Nature-based Solutions (NbS) Taskforce 6 on Co-creation and Governance.

The survey results will be used to inform the development of a collaborative workshop on inclusive participation around NbS, as well as a collaborative publication collating lessons learnt and key messages for policy uptake.

We recognize that NbS - if not informed by justice and inclusivity principles - can reinforce existing inequalities and further marginalize some actors.

This survey has thus been designed to collect your experiences and perspectives and identify successful strategies, critical challenges, and lessons learned in trying to meaningfully engage commonly excluded stakeholders in NbS co-creation processes.

Status message

By ‘Commonly excluded stakeholders' we understand social groups highly interested in or significantly affected by NbS, but are unable or unwilling to participate, engage, or meaningfully contribute to co-creation processes. Exclusion can result from personal factors, socio-economic and demographic inequalities, and procedural injustices such as biased processes, lack of transparency and representativeness. Broader social, economic, and political conditions can also limit access to essential services like education, healthcare, and secure livelihood options, further sustaining exclusion.  These groups can vary significantly depending on the context.

We understand co-creation as a systematic process of creating new solutions with people (not for them) that involves citizens and communities in policy and service development. This process spans the NbS lifecycle's three intertwined phases: planning, delivery, and stewardship. In the planning phase, goals are defined, stakeholders identified, and necessary innovations and activities outlined. The delivery phase focuses on executing the plan, establishing partnerships, and continuously monitoring progress. The stewardship phase involves ongoing management and evaluation, promoting sustainability and resilience through partnerships, community engagement, and adaptive management².
