Climate-Ready Marine Protected Areas: Building Resilience and Supporting Marine Adaptation

This event will bring together experts and stakeholders from across Europe to address the critical need for climate adaptation in marine conservation. We will explore two essential questions:

1. How can MPAs be designed to be resilient to future climate impacts, such as ocean warming and acidification, to create “climate-smart MPAs”?
2. How can MPAs play a supportive role in adapting coastal and marine environments to climate-related changes?

The workshop will feature presentations from the MEER:STARK, FutureMARES, MPA4Change, and MSP4BIO projects, which will share recent outcomes and insights. Our agenda includes a mix of case studies, discussions on scientific perspectives, and collaborative sessions to explore research gaps, set priorities and propose actionable recommendations for policymakers.
